When did you first develop an interest in your industry?

I first developed an interest in my industry many years ago. In Cumbria, the nuclear industry has evolved the local economy over the last 60 years, I knew I wanted to be a part of this.

What attracted you to Springpod, how was your experience of using it and how did it affect your career direction?

Springpod was attractive to me as it was a quick and flexible way of adding to my work experience particularly during the effects of Covid, as few companies were taking on students for work experience. It was useful for me as I was able to learn more about a subject that was interesting to me from a different perspective to what I knew beforehand, giving useful insights from professionals I wouldn’t have got the chance to otherwise. I had always had an interest in finance and management and knew I wanted a career in this field.

Springpod helped me to look at the different areas of business, consolidating my choice to pursue project management.

What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship in your industry?

My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship in the nuclear or project management industry is to think about what elements are attractive to you and really look into the business and role you’re going into. I felt a degree apprenticeship was better than the traditional uni route for me as it meant I would learn on the job, become a qualified project manager sooner, and allow me to kick start my career. It’s also important to choose a company that aligns with your views and beliefs so that you feel valued at work.

It’s also important to have work experience and to do things like virtual experience with Springpod, as employers are looking for people who have more than just good grades as these are the people who can work best in a team.
